The Virgin Islands Taxi Cab Commission has established procedures for applying and renewing a license, buying, selling, and transferring medallions, and updating your vehicle information. Please see the list of required documents and forms that are needed for each transaction.

 

How To ...

New and Extension Lease

To apply for a new lease or an extension, you will need:

  • Type written, notarized lease agreement PDF file from medallion owner
  • Police and traffic record
  • Tax clearance letter from the Internal Revenue Bureau (IRB)

First time drivers will also need to submit an authorization to use vehicle for hire PDF file form and a copy of proposed vehicle registrations.

Business License

To apply or renew your business license, you will need:

  • Certificate of entitlement (Medallion card)
  • Tax clearance letter from the Internal Revenue Bureau (IRB)
  • Police and traffic record
  • Vehicle registration and insurance
  • Current drivers license
  • Taxi Badge

Medallion Sale

If you would like to sell your medallion, you will need:

  • Intent to sell letter type written and notarized from medallion owner
  • 3 references type written and notarized
  • Traffic and police record from the buyer
  • Social security card
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Picture ID

Medallion Transfer

To transfer a medallion, you will need:

  • Intent to transfer letter type written and notarized from medallion owner
  • 3 references type written and notarized
  • Traffic and police record from the receiver
  • Social security card
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Picture ID

Co-ownership

If you would like to add someone as a co-owner of your medallion, you will need:

  • A letter type written and notarized from medallion owner
  • 3 references type written and notarized
  • Traffic and police record from the buyer
  • Social security card
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Picture ID

Final Probate

For the final adjudication of probate, you will need:

  • Death certificate of the medallion owner
  • 3 references type written and notarized
  • Traffic and police record of the receiver
  • Social security card of the receiver
  • Proof of citizenship of the receiver
  • Picture ID

Change of Vehicle

If you would like to change your vehicle, you will need:

Upon approval, you will receive a letter to submit to Bureau of Motor Vehicles

Medallion Replacement

To replace a medallion, you will need:

  • Police report
  • A letter, type written and notarized, stating what happened to the medallion

There is a $1,000 fee and 20 day waiting period
